Fisher Stevens is a rare find in Hollywood, a man who has successfully dabbled in all corners of the entertainment industry. His versatility in the field is evident with his wide range of credits, from acting to producing to directing and from film to television to theater. This Oscar-winning producer has appeared in over 40 stage productions, 30 motion pictures and has produced over 20 films.

Stevens began his acting career in NY, appearing in the Tony winning productions of “Torch Song Trilogy” playing David, the adopted son of the gay protagonist. Stevens also appeared in productions of “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and “Carousel” on Broadway. His Off-Broadway performing credits include “A Perfect Ganesh”, “Twelfth Night” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. He was a student of theater, and studied with the incredible Uta Hagen. He parlayed his stage success into film and was seen in such classics as The Flamingo Kid, Short Circuit and Reversal of Fortune.

In 1986 Stevens co-founded the downtown NY theater company Naked Angels that is still active today. Original members included Marisa Tomei, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rob Morrow. He also co-founded GreeneStreet Films in 1996, where Stevens had his directorial debut with the film Just A Kiss. He produced and co-produced over 15 films while involved with GreeneStreet including the Academy Award nominated film In The Bedroom, A Prairie Home Companion and acclaimed documentary Once In A Lifetime.

Over the years, Stevens has developed a tremendous passion for making documentaries. The Cove, which Stevens produced about the dolphin slaughter in Japan, has been showered with awards including the Academy Award for Best Documentary, the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Best Documentary honors at the National Board of Review, LA Film Critics Association, and Environmental Media Awards (full list of award’s located below). Additionally, Stephens co-directed the documentary Crazy Love that won the 2006 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary.
Stevens is simultaneously working on two intriguing films. One is entitled The War Against War which takes an in-depth look at the United Nations Peacekeeping missions in global hotspots. The War Against War had been focusing on United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti when the devastating 7.0 earthquake hit on January 12, 2010. The documentary will now include how the devastation left behind threatens the progress of peacekeeping , and how the peacekeepers adjust to the rising demands placed on them in the wake of the quake. The other film is about the Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic, following a cardiothoracic surgeon who is raising money to build a boat to act as a floating hospital. Also in the pipeline Stevens will be Executive Producing along with Ben Stiller a documentary on Budd Schulberg.

Stevens is still actively working in front of the camera. He had a recurring role on Lost and recently guest starred on Ugly Betty, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Numb3rs. In the winter of 2010 Stevens will be seen in The Experiment with Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker and the teen comedy called Rising Stars. He is recently completed shooting Henry’s Crime with Keanu Reeves and Vera Farmiga.
