On Oct 10, 2010, Adreana Mauer will be lacing up her running shoes with teammate and friend, Kristi Battalini, to run the Chicago Marathon. This will be the 1st of 4 endurance events that they’ll compete in over the next 7 months to raise funds for the LTFHC.

HEAL Africa is the Congolese nonprofit that pioneered fistula repair in North Kivu and Maniema provinces. The group’s staff of 18 doctors and 28 nurses performs more than 300 fistula surgeries and 1,000 orthopedic surgeries annually, and treats hundreds of rape survivors. HEAL Africa also runs a 200-bed hospital, trains health-care professionals, and works on public health education and community reconciliation in villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. USAID and UNICEF are just two of the renowned international funders that have invested in HEAL Africa, recognizing its impressive track record. Dr Amy : Le « Lac Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic », qui est une Clinique Flottante, est une ONG internationale ayant pour mission de faciliter l’accès aux soins médicaux aux communautés isolées dans le bassin du Lac Tanganyika. Le bateau navigue sur le Lac Tanganyika pour fournir une couverture sanitaire à la population qui vit dans cette partie d’Afrique et qui a besoin des soins médicaux. Le Lac Tanganyika est situé entre la Tanzanie, le Burundi, la Zambie et la Rd Congo. Mais ce dernier pays représente le plus long bassin de Tanganyika. C’est pourquoi la grande partie des activités de FHC est dans la RDC. Le bateau sert d’hôpital du bassin pour fournir les soins médicaux essentiels et les services chirurgicaux.

LTFHC’s Inaugural Trip to DRC and Burundi

On January 8th, 2010, the LTFHC will be departing for its inaugural trip to the DR Congo and Burundi. We are unsure of the frequency of our internet connections, but check back here over the course of the follow month to learn about our meetings with governmental officials, NGOs, health care workers; our adventures in the bush of Eastern Congo, and our overland and over-water journeys around the lake. Trip preview includes: Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Moba, Kalemie, Bujumbura, Kigoma, and then a freight train ride all the way across Tanzania to Dar es Salaam! Happy 2010, one and all!
